Behind the Black Friday Scene

How We Prepare for Black Friday Madness in Our Kitchen

Black Friday? Around here, we call it Fudge Friday - because while the rest of the world braces for long queues, frantic scrolling, and questionable impulse buys, our kitchen hums with something far sweeter. This is the moment our small team of artisan confectioners gears up for the busiest, bubbliest, most cocoa-dusted weekend of the year.

And yes, we fully encourage you to be really bad. Indulge knowing you’re doing it right ... with handmade fudge that’s crafted ethically, slowly, and with just the right amount of buttery mischief.

So what does it take to prepare for Black Friday madness in our fudge kitchen? Grab a spoon and come behind the scenes…

1. It All Starts with the Stir: Handmade in Every Sense

While some brands rely on machines and shortcuts, our fudge makers rely on something older, wiser, and far more reliable: their own arms.

Every batch begins in a copper pot, ingredients measured not by algorithms but by instinct. The kind that comes from stirring fudge since before Black Friday was even a thing. (We’ve been doing this since 1983, after all.)

Essential ingredients?

  • Natural whipping cream
  • Unrefined sugars
  • Ethically sourced cocoa, vanilla, fruits, and nuts
  • A pinch of pride
  • And absolutely zero additives or shortcuts

There’s something almost meditative about watching a batch come together, the slow swirl from light to glossy, the moment it reaches that perfect temperature, and the hush that falls when it’s poured out onto the cooling table.

Behind the scenes, this is when the team gives each other that knowing nod: The Black Friday stockpile is officially growing.

2. Scaling Up Without Selling Out

Black Friday weekend is our busiest event of the year, but we refuse to compromise on the values that make our fudge special.

That means:

No mass production. Ever.

Small-batch is who we are. Even during the biggest sale of the year, every slice is still stirred, creamed, cut, and packed by hand.

Ethically sourced ingredients only.

We don’t cut corners here — not in November, not when demand spikes, not even when the fudge elves (okay fine, confectioners) are working late with Christmas music humming in the background.

Freshness above all else.

We don’t stockpile fudge months ahead. We start preparing weeks before, but everything is made fresh for Black Friday week, so you taste the difference immediately.

It’s extra work. It’s absolutely worth it.

3. Fudge Flavours in Overdrive

In the run-up to Fudge Friday, the kitchen starts to resemble Santa’s workshop - if Santa dealt exclusively in warm caramel, melted chocolate, and dangerously irresistible samples.

Some flavours are always stars during the Black Friday weekend:

  • Clotted Cream Fudge — the one that sells out first every year
  • Sea Salted Caramel — dangerously indulgent, not sorry
  • Chocolate Swirl — ethically sourced cocoa, ethically addictive
  • Traditional Toffee — the taste of pure nostalgia

And of course, our much-loved Seasonal Specials, which absolutely do not stay secret. In fact, they’re the highlight of the season:

This Year’s Seasonal Specials

  • Black Forest Gateau Fudge — rich chocolate, cherry sweetness, complete decadence
  • Christmas Gingerbread Fudge — warm spices, festive crunch, 100% Christmas spirit
  • Mint Chocolate Swirl Fudge — refreshing, luxurious, and beautifully balanced
  • Snowball Vegan Fudge (Vanilla Coconut) — creamy, coconutty, and completely dairy-free

Inside the kitchen, new flavours get tested, tweaked, and taste-approved in the weeks before the event. We pretend it’s serious culinary work, but honestly, it’s mostly an excuse to take very legitimate “research bites.”

4. The Packing Party (Yes, It’s a Real Thing)

If you’ve ever received one of our boxes, you know we don’t just “put fudge in a container.”
Our packaging is part of the experience: luxury, recyclable, and beautiful without being wasteful.

In the days before Black Friday, the packing table becomes a well-orchestrated dance:

  1. Freshly cut slices arrive, still warm.
  2. Boxes are folded, lined, and made ready.
  3. Every fudge slice is placed with care - because presentation matters.
  4. Seals, labels, and carefully-written notes are added.

It smells like vanilla, looks like Christmas, and sounds like a team trying not to eat the stock.

5. The Calm Before the Sale: Final Checks

In the 48 hours before the Black Friday event begins, the fudge team shifts from making to marshalling.

We check:

  • Website stock levels
  • Packaging supplies
  • Courier schedules
  • The emergency-stash-of-tea-and-biscuits cupboard

And then there’s the special part: preparing the exclusive Black Friday offer.

This year, we’re doing something wonderfully naughty:

From now until Monday, enjoy 20% off orders over £40 on all handmade, ethical fudge.

Use code: BFCM2025

It’s the biggest, fudgiest, most savings-packed weekend of the year ...and absolutely the best time to fill your cupboards, stockings, and suspiciously large “personal treat drawer.”

6. The Big Weekend: Fudge Friday Begins

At midnight, the countdown ends, and the orders start flooding in, and from there, it’s all hands on deck.

A typical Fudge Friday weekend includes:

  • The kettle constantly boiling - because nothing gets done without a steady flow of tea
  • Staff carrying trays of fresh fudge up three flights of stairs from the kitchen to our top-floor fulfilment room
  • Our fulfilment team carefully wrapping each slice and adding its flavour label with precision and pride
  • Boxes stacked higher than the fudge maker who’s been here since 1983
  • The postal van making extra trips, sometimes looking slightly alarmed at the volume of confectionery coming its way
  • Staff fuelled almost entirely by sugar, biscuits, and questionable levels of determination

We’re tired. We’re sticky. We’re somehow always dusted in cocoa powder.
And we absolutely love it.

Because this weekend isn’t just about sales. It’s about the shared indulgence of a community that appreciates handmade artistry and ethical confectionery as much as we do.

7. And Then… the Clock Strikes Midnight

Every year, the Black Friday madness officially ends at midnight, Cyber Monday, 1st December. After that, it’s back to full-price fudge (still worth every penny, mind you).

A quick note from the grown-ups in the room:
Event ends midnight Monday 1st December 2025, available while stocks last, cannot be used in conjunction with other offers, including free shipping, valid on orders over £40, excludes experiences and wedding products, T&Cs apply.

And then we sleep.
Well, until Christmas orders begin.
